Well, it’s that time of year again – vacation time!!  If you’re in a relationship, that person is most likely accompanying you on your summer sojourn – and while we all like to picture couples vacations as the utmost in romance, unfortunately, that is not always the case.

Traveling as a duo can be stressful, whether you miss the flight, or you simply can’t agree on where to eat dinner. Couples don’t normally spend an entire week together with nothing to do but sight see, relax, and of course, talk to each other.

Long seated resentments that have been hiding under the surface for some time can finally burst into the open in this high pressure environment.  In addition, the fact that vacations are supposed to be blissful means high expectations are par for the course.

So what can you do to make sure there’s no trouble in paradise?  I have a few tips to make summer travel with your partner simple.

1. First of all, remember that as always, COMPROMISE IS KEY!  Take turns making decisions and try to keep things balanced.

2. Don’t be afraid to take breaks from each other – you love museums and he hates them?  Spend the morning or afternoon apart pursuing your own interests – and then you’ll end up looking forward to being reunited with your other half.

3. Make sure you discuss any recent issues in your relationship BEFORE embarking on your trip.  It’s always easier to talk things out in a familiar environment where you can exit the situation or talk to someone else afterwards.

So ladies – keep these tips in mind and ENJOY YOUR VACATIONS!
